Public order forces PSG to postpone the match against Lyon

In the heart of Paris, Sunday night ended with the announcement that the Ligue 1 match between Paris Saint‑Germain and Lyon, scheduled for 20:45, has been postponed to Monday for public order reasons.

Reasons and decision of the League

The announcement was confirmed by the French Football League, which moved the game at the request of the police prefecture. Originally on the schedule for Sunday, the match is now set for Monday at the same time slot.

The decision stems from the fear of clashes after the demonstrations and the violence of recent days in the capital. Authorities deemed it necessary to avoid further disorder during the sporting event.

It is the fourth postponement of matches this weekend, affecting both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, due to the protests expected in France a week after those of October 17. The previous postponements have already disrupted the national calendar.

PSG will play the fixture at the Parc des Princes on the same afternoon as the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which will be held in London at 19:30. Among the award contenders are Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé and Fabian Ruiz, all starters of the European champion club. Prior to this postponement, the Ligue 1 matches between Toulouse and Troyes and the Ligue 2 match between Montpellier and Red Star, both on Saturday, had been moved. In addition, the kickoff of the Saint‑Étienne‑Nantes match was pushed back from 20:00 to 20:45 on October 24.

The postponement highlights how civil tensions can directly affect the national sporting calendar, forcing clubs and organizers to reshuffle high‑profile fixtures. The match will therefore remain a focal point for the resumption of Ligue 1 next week.
