PSG Marquinhos must adapt after Kvaratskhelia’s season‑ending injury
The night sky over Paris lit up as Paris Saint-Germain celebrated a 4‑2 Champions League win over Barcelona on Tuesday evening. The victory marked the third round of the Champions League qualification phase and ended the Catalans’ unbeaten run. Yet the celebration was quickly eclipsed by a cascade of injuries. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos all left the pitch injured.
Kvaratskhelia faces ten‑month layoff
Kvaratskhelia suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (LCA) in his right knee after a clumsy challenge with Espart. Two club assistants carried him off the field, confirming the severity of the injury. PSG announced on Wednesday that he will undergo surgery in the coming days and that his recovery could last up to ten months.
The club’s official communiqué confirmed the knee injury as the most serious of the three. It also warned that the absence of Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos and Dembélé could affect Brazil and France during the November FIFA window.
Marquinhos and Dembélé also sidelined
Marquinhos, captain of the Brazil national team, sustained a right‑thigh muscle injury that will keep him out for several weeks. The club’s statement said the defender will miss upcoming fixtures and may be unavailable for Brazil in November. His injury adds to the growing list of absences for the French side.
Police postpone Ligue 1 top match between PSG and Lyon to Monday
Ousmane Dembélé suffered a left‑thigh muscle strain and was forced to leave the field after only twenty minutes of play. PSG confirmed he will remain in treatment for the next few weeks. The French forward’s absence could also see him miss the France national team’s November matches.
Upcoming fixtures test PSG depth
On the 25th at 20:45, Paris Saint-Germain travel to face Ligue 1 leaders Lyon, who sit one goal ahead in the table. The match will be a crucial test of a squad missing three key internationals. PSG also host Le Havre on 30 October and travel to Villarreal on 3 November for the fourth Champions League group game.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Lyon match postponed due to riots in Paris
Luis Enrique, the Spanish coach, is expected to rotate his side given the injury list. However, the loss of Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos and Dembélé leaves the team without several of its senior internationals. The upcoming games will therefore hinge on the depth of the remaining squad.
