PSG banks on a radical break to revitalize Dembélé
In the corridors of the Parc des Princes, the PSG staff decided on a radical measure: to withdraw Ousmane Dembélé from football for several days after his involvement with the French, in order to restore his physical, mental and psychological freshness.
A calculated pause
In twenty‑seven days, Dembélé played seven matches for PSG, totalling 466 minutes. Added to that are 266 minutes spread over four matches with the French national team. These figures illustrate the high physical load since his return.
The Parisian staff took into account the intensity of his efforts with the national team before granting this break. The aim was to ease the Parisian pressure weighing on the young striker. This decision is part of an individualized management.
This approach is part of the rotation policy implemented by Luis Enrique. The coach had already applied it sporadically with Nuno Mendes. It aims to preserve the group's freshness while maintaining competitiveness.
According to the plan, the pause should give Dembélé a boost of muscular and mental energy. A fit return could strengthen PSG's attack in the upcoming challenges. The immediate benefit is therefore sought.
Physical trainer Xavier Frezza reminds that « it’s not in less than a week off that he will lose the rhythm ». He nevertheless notes that this rest does not replace the essential groundwork needed to sustain the sequences.
Luis Enrique has already stressed the need to preserve the group's freshness despite the rotations. With the major European deadlines approaching, he is counting on a quick recovery. The true verdict will only be known when the matches resume.
