Premier League odds tumble as Lampard and Carrick face sack threat

Four games into the new Premier League campaign, managers are already feeling the heat. With the three‑week international break looming, owners have a window to act, and UK betting firms have slashed the odds on Frank Lampard becoming the season’s first sack victim as Coventry struggle to find the net.

Coventry’s early struggles and betting odds

The impending three‑week international pause does little to ease the tension, as it gives club owners ample time to replace a manager before the next match. Consequently, betting platforms have reduced Lampard’s odds of being the first casualty to 5/1.

Coventry have yet to score in their opening four fixtures, a run compounded by away trips to Arsenal and Manchester City. Their promotion marked the end of a 25‑year exile from the top flight, having clinched the Championship with 95 points and 97 goals. The goal drought, however, has left the Sky Blues scrambling for answers.

Despite the poor start, Lampard is not the bookmakers’ favourite; Fulham’s interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa sits at 3/1 to be the first sacked. Arbeloa’s side have collected a solitary point from four league games, earned by a goalless draw at Liverpool’s Anfield. The odds suggest the Fulham job is perceived as the most precarious.

Fulham’s recent league defeats have come at the hands of Chelsea, Sunderland and Crystal Palace. Yet the club has found the net in cup action, scoring four goals and adding six more across two League Cup ties. Those strikes hint that a turnaround may still be possible.

United and Spurs under the sack microscope

Manchester United’s new manager Michael Carrick arrived with high expectations after a strong finish to the previous season. The club splashed over £160 million on six signings, including Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba. United’s opening sequence featured a 2‑0 loss at Hull, a 5‑2 victory over Ipswich, a 2‑2 draw with Everton and a contentious home defeat to City. Betting firms now list Carrick at 9/1 to be the first Premier League manager dismissed.

Behind Carrick, Palace boss Pierre Sage and Tottenham Hotspur’s Roberto De Zerbi are also priced as early‑season casualties. De Zerbi’s side have spent well over £300 million on eight new arrivals yet sit 17th with just two points and no goals. Their recent record includes defeats to Brentford and Newcastle, goalless draws with Nottingham Forest and Everton, and a 3‑1 League Cup loss to Liverpool, where Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai scored.

The betting market therefore paints a bleak picture for several high‑profile managers, with the odds reflecting both recent results and the financial stakes involved. As the international break approaches, clubs will weigh whether a change in the dugout could spark a revival.

Bettors are reminded to gamble responsibly and to seek Help if needed, with resources such as NHS, GambleAware and GamStop available. The inclusion of these messages underscores the importance of staying within budget and avoiding chasing losses.
