Overmars steers Antwerp's chase for ex‑NAC right‑back Maxime Busi
Marc Overmars and Royal Antwerp FC are actively working the transfer market, with the Belgian club poised to sign former NAC right‑back Maxime Busi. The move would add a versatile defender to an Antwerp side already targeting other players.
Earlier this week the club confirmed that Nemanja Gudelj is a target, but it also signalled strong interest in Maxime Busi, the 26‑year‑old free agent. Both players share a history of playing in Breda.
Busi became a free agent after his contract with French Stade Reims expired this summer. The termination of his deal left him available without a transfer fee.
During his career Busi has featured for Sporting Charleroi, NAC and Italian side Parma. Those spells gave him experience in both the Belgian and Italian leagues.
In addition to his club career, Busi has represented the Belgians on several occasions at youth and senior levels. His international appearances underline his quality.
The Gazette Van Antwerpen Antwerp will reach an agreement with the 26‑year‑old defender shortly. The source suggests the deal is close to being finalised.
Earlier in the month Busi was linked with Standard as a possible replacement for back Marlon Fossey, but that negotiation ultimately fell through. The failed move left him free to consider other options.
In the Eredivisie Busi accumulated thirteen appearances, matching his limited exposure at the top level. His playing time mirrors that of Nemanja Gudelj, who also has Eredivisie experience.
Antwerp begins the new season on 9 August against promoted SK Beveren, a fixture that will test the squad's new additions. The upcoming match offers Busi an early chance to prove his worth.
