Nations League: Klopp gives update on Musiala and Havertz

In the Nations League match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam, the German national team already had to cope with two absences before kickoff: Jamal Musiala was out injured, and Kai Havertz left the field after about thirty minutes due to a thigh injury, said coach Jürgen Klopp.

Musiala ruled out before kickoff

Musiala injured himself while warming up, before the match against the Netherlands began, and therefore could not start. Klopp was right next to the 21‑year‑old Bayern midfielder when he went to the ground, and later emphasized that the injury had nothing to do with his known neurological dysfunction.

In the RTL interview Klopp said: "It is not good news, but somehow also a good news, because it is a normal football injury." He added that it was a typical muscle injury, not a neurological event.

During the pre‑season Musiala had already collapsed on the pitch in two test matches – against RB Leipzig and 1. FC Heidenheim. The neurological dysfunction can lead to so‑called absences, the coach explained.

Klopp expects a smooth debut against the Netherlands

Kai Havertz also had to leave the match early. The Arsenal striker reached for his left rear thigh after about half an hour, pulled himself together and was substituted.

Klopp explained that both players were already in the MRI and he hoped to receive a diagnosis later that evening. He hopes that nothing serious is present and assumes that the two will be fit to play again relatively quickly.

After the 1:1 in Amsterdam Klopp emphasized that the situation was disappointing, but the injuries had no impact on the current result. He also saw it as a step back toward normality for the team.
