Nations League duel leaves Germany without Havertz and Musiala

While the Netherlands can continue after the Nations League match against Germany with an unchanged squad, Germany must play the remaining three internationals without Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala. Havertz, 27, suffered a hamstring injury during the match against the Netherlands and is now returning to London for a scan, reports an English outlet that is optimistic about the severity of the injury. Musiala, 23, already had a torn muscle in his right thigh and had to miss the start of the match; Bayern Munich confirmed that he is now beginning his rehabilitation.

Both players have left the German international break and will no longer appear for Die Mannschaft in the current period. Their absence means that Jürgen Klopp must adjust his original plan, as he now has to deploy two substitutes earlier.

Florian Wirtz of Liverpool and Jonathan Burkardt of Eintracht Frankfurt, who were originally only due to appear in the second block, are now being moved to the first group. They can already feature on Sunday against Greece, with kickoff at 20.45 hour in Augsburg.

The change comes after Brian Brobbey already reported an injury earlier, and shows that the German staff are dealing with multiple personnel issues. Despite a large squad, Klopp’s plan continues to deviate from the original setup.
