Nagelsmann vows to stay on after Germany’s shock exit
Julian Nagelsmann told Magenta TV that he wants to carry on as Germany’s head coach after the national side’s round‑of‑32 exit, a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay that left the DFB team eliminated from the World Cup in the competition.
Germany were knocked out in the round of 32 after a penalty shootout against Paraguay. The match had finished level before the decisive spot‑kicks.
Julian Nagelsmann said to Magenta TV, “I want to carry on.” He added, “If the DFB want me to, I’d be happy to prepare for the Euros and the Nations League. If they don’t, they should tell me.”

Describing the elimination as a major shock, Nagelsmann said, “The disappointment is enormous, we had a very cohesive team that always gave everything.” He highlighted the squad’s unity despite the loss. When asked what was on his mind on the bench after the exit was confirmed, he replied, “Not much, really. When you go out of a tournament, it’s always a defining experience.” He also noted, “We controlled the game, but we were somehow lacking the killer punch,” and that the side should have moved the ball quicker at times against a deep block.Nagelsmann’s Germany collapses again: Paraguay end World Cup hopes in Boston
Nagelsmann stressed that the attitude was never the issue, stating, “The lads really wanted to win.” He criticised the referee’s decision on Jonathan Tah’s stoppage‑time goal, saying, “For me as well, it was a perfectly good goal. It’s a joke that he blew for that. I don’t know what he saw there.”
