Manchester United’s summer midfield hunt: Tchouameni or Scott?

🇬🇧
Manchester United are reportedly targeting Aurelien Tchouameni and Alex Scott as midfield reinforcements, while Tottenham Hotspur have secured Mateus Fernandes from the club for £85 million this week. The French midfielder is linked with Real Madrid, and the English midfielder currently stars for Bournemouth. United’s interest in Tchouameni reflects a desire for a player of Real Madrid’s calibre. However, the Spanish club’s intention to reshape its own midfield and possible openness to selling Eduardo Camavinga means the move is not under United’s control. Alex Scott is seen as a more attainable option on paper, given his performances for Bournemouth. Bournemouth have made clear they will not sell any of their best players and would require a premium for Scott, who is also looking to sign a new deal. The broader shortlist includes Felix Nmecha, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Sander Berge, offering a range of price points and experience. Bouaddi, the 18‑year‑old Lille and Morocco midfielder, continues to impress at the World Cup, adding a developmental angle to United’s search. United also plan to secure Atalanta’s Ederson after his World Cup stint with Brazil, a deal that would provide legs and presence in midfield. If the Ederson signing materialises, United could choose their next midfield addition for profile rather than desperation. On the left wing, Crysencio Summerville remains United’s number‑one target, with initial talks held with West Ham United. The club hopes to fund the move through the sale of Marcus Rashford, but acknowledges that Tottenham Hotspur could outbid them for the winger. Securing a midfielder and a winger would allow Manchester United to shape their squad without endless speculation. The outcomes will hinge on Real Madrid’s midfield plans and Bournemouth’s willingness to negotiate, while Tottenham’s recent activity underscores the competitive market.
