Sunderland must outbid rivals to secure Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye
Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye is drawing interest from Sunderland, who must outbid Everton, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion to secure the 27‑year‑old Senegalese talent, according to journalist Harry Watkinson. Gueye logged five goals and two assists in 39 appearances last season, with his contract running until summer 2028.
Gueye was an important member of Villarreal's squad in the previous campaign, delivering a series of impressive displays in midfield. The Senegalese sensation is currently among the most talented midfielders in La Liga.

Gueye is noted for his energy, solid tackling and ability to anticipate danger, securing possession inside his own half. He is a good passer and can chip in with goals and assists.
However, doubts remain whether he can cope with the Premier League's physicality and high intensity if Sunderland secure his signature this off‑season.
If signed, Gueye would add quality and depth to Le Bris' midfield, fighting for a regular starting spot at the Stadium of Light next season. At 27, he has his peak years ahead.
Given his contract runs until summer 2028, Sunderland would need to present a convincing offer to avoid a cut‑price deal, making the pursuit a decisive factor in this transfer window.
