Manchester City case: the FA warns of risk to football integrity
Friday 2 October 2026, the Football Association published an official statement on the Manchester City case, following the verdict of the Independent Commission which found the club guilty of serious Financial Fair Play violations and of failing to cooperate in investigations covering nine seasons, from 2009 to 2018.

The English Football Association highlighted the devastating impact of the ruling for the sport movement beyond England, stating that “the decision of the independent commission has significant implications for the integrity of football” and specifying that the institutions are “carefully assessing this decision and its implications and we will take the necessary measures.”
The Commission highlighted that the irregularities span nine seasons, from 2009 to 2018, a period during which the club did not fully cooperate with the investigations.
The statement was made public at 12:35 on the same day, confirming the FA's intention to adopt the appropriate measures to safeguard the integrity of football.
