Lyon breathes a sigh of relief after Steeve Kango's dramatic fall

Lyon breathes a sigh of relief after a dramatic evening: on Thursday the club lost 3‑0 to Hoffenheim in the Europa League, but the biggest concern – the fall of 19‑year‑old full‑back Steeve Kango – fortunately turned out not to be serious. He went down after an aerial duel with Hoffenheim striker Tim Lamperle and landed on his back.

Quick medical intervention on the pitch

Lyon's medical team rushed onto the pitch, immediately assessed the severity of the fall and fitted a neck brace on Kango. An ambulance then drove onto the grass and took him to the hospital, while the crowd applauded loudly.

A day later French media confirmed that no serious injuries had been diagnosed; Kango was allowed to leave the hospital at night and returned to the squad the same evening.

The match also sidelined two other players: Nathan De Cat of Hoffenheim and Loïs Openda of Lyon were injured, while Julien Duranville remained on the French bench.

In other sports news it was reported that, while Kango recovers, a transfer from Man United to Como was successfully completed, but that Bruno Fernandes's villa was left vacant.

AA Gent's defeat was seen as a missed opportunity; Belgian clubs are now looking for a new boost after a perfect week in Europe, including a match between Jagiellonia and Anderlecht that is receiving a lot of attention.
