Lyon considers winter loan for Loïs Openda despite injury

Loïs Openda and Pavel Sulc are sidelined, leaving Paulo Fonseca with few attacking options. Olympique Lyon therefore consider an extra striker for the upcoming winter transfer window, with the young Brazilian Endrick as a possible loan signing. Openda will miss at least a month, Sulc about four months.

Injuries limit attack

Loïs Openda suffered a crack in his shinbone after a duel with Lens and will be out for at least a month. In five Ligue 1‑duels this season he has provided one goal and one assist, and in four Champions‑League‑matches he scored once.

Pavel Sulc is dealing with a meniscus injury to his right knee, meaning he is expected to rehabilitate for four months. The midfielder will therefore be absent longer than Openda.

Paulo Fonseca admitted that the club has had little luck with its attackers. “I am used to that. Last year it was the same story. We have to adapt and work with the options we have,” he said at the press conference.

Winter striker in the spotlight

The Portuguese coach confirmed that he has already spoken with the club board about a possible offensive reinforcement. The name Endrick, the young Brazilian forward from Real Madrid, is mentioned as a potential loan signing.

The arrival of Endrick would mean direct competition for Openda as soon as he returns. In the meantime Fonseca will have to make do with Himbert and Rodriguez as the main options in attack.

The contrasts between the injury‑laden situation and the possible winter signing show that Olympique Lyon faces a crucial decision: either bring in extra quality, or rely on a limited squad for the rest of the season.
