Kompany's work intensity questioned after his collapse at Bayern

While Bayern Munich praises the unwavering commitment of its Belgian coach, Vincent Kompany, the club had to deal with his collapse that occurred on Friday at the training centre, leaving observers to wonder whether his 18‑hour daily work schedule, described by his father Pierre, is sustainable.

Vincent Kompany suffered a collapse on Friday at Bayern Munich's training centre. Emergency services intervened quickly and his condition was judged stable. The exact causes of the collapse remain to be determined.

The collapse comes as the coach had already shown signs of fatigue in recent days. During the 6‑1 victory over Leipzig, he had to lie down for a few moments in the dressing room. This situation led to his absence from training and the press conference scheduled before the match against Arsenal.

Fatigue and recent incidents

Vincent Kompany did not take part in training nor the press conference preceding the meeting with Arsenal. Two days later, he was again present on Bayern Munich's bench during the 2‑2 draw against the Gunners. He admitted having contracted a virus the previous week, explaining: “I caught a rather unpleasant virus last week and, obviously, I didn’t listen to my body.”

The work schedule according to Pierre Kompany

In April 2025, Pierre Kompany told the microphone that his son usually works 18 hours a day and sees his children very little on ordinary days. He added that, since becoming a coach, Vincent is even more demanding of himself than he was as a player, arriving very early at the training centre and being the last to leave in the evening. These revelations shed light on the Bayern coach's daily discipline.

Pierre's statements also highlight the influence of family upbringing. Their mother, Jocelyne, who died in 2007, instilled from a young age the importance of work and perseverance, asserting that children must work much harder than others to succeed. This mindset appears to persist in Vincent.

For now, nothing allows us to assert that the work schedule or the virus are directly responsible for the collapse. The priority remains the health of the Belgian coach, and Bayern is closely monitoring his condition.
