Kompany fears setback for Bayern star Diaz after Arsenal duel
In the illuminated Wembley Stadium, where on Wednesday evening the Champions League duel between the reigning English champions FC Arsenal and FC Bayern Munich took place, a subdued mood prevailed after the fair 2-2 draw. On the Munich side, concern over attacking star Luis Diaz, whose involvement was suddenly ended, dominated.
Exciting duel against the English champions
The back-and-forth between the two teams was marked by high intensity and ended with a fair 2-2. Despite the sharing of points, the mood at Bayern remained mixed, as they could not hold onto the temporary 2-1 lead.
Against the star-studded team of Spanish coach Mikel Arteta, Bayern initially showed strength, but the English side pushed back and prevented a victory. The Bayern squad had to settle for not being punished, yet also leaving the pitch without a win.
Luis Diaz: Injury update and coach's reaction
After the final whistle, the mood on the Munich side was rather subdued, as thoughts lingered on Luis Diaz. The Colombian was substituted in the 68th minute for Ismael Saibari, but had to leave the field about 20 minutes later.
Bayern postpone second team after Kompany's sudden collapse
Kompany's warning had already become loud before the match: He had made clear that Diaz was not fully fit and had already shown similar problems in the duel against RB Leipzig. The coach explained: “He hasn't trained 100 percent, but this morning said: ‘Coach, I want to be involved and would like to play.’ That's a good thing for us that he can be on the bench.”
After the game, Kompany expressed his concern: “The communication wasn't such that we talked for long. I hope it's not serious. But if it happens a second time, you always get a bit worried.”
Diaz was replaced by the young Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, who thus celebrated his debut in the European cup. The substitute entered with a restrained but determined attitude and thereby gained valuable experience at the highest level.
