Bayern and Arsenal share points – a match full of goals from both sides
David reported that on Wednesday evening, in the Champions League blockbuster between FC Bayern Munich and the reigning English champions FC Arsenal, a 2-2 draw was achieved. The visitors took the lead through Eberechi Eze in the 25th minute, Bayern equalised through Alphonso Davies (35') and Harry Kane (61') before Declan Rice (82') scored the equaliser for Arsenal.
Early lead for Arsenal
Eberechi Eze put the visitors ahead already in the 25th minute and put the Munich side under early pressure. The early goal immediately put Arsenal on the attack and set the tempo of the first half.
Bayern's response: Davies and Kane
Alphonso Davies responded just ten minutes later with the equaliser in the 35th minute. Shortly thereafter, in the 61st, Harry Kane converted a penalty to restore Bayern's lead and took the game to a new level.
Rice secures late equaliser
The Munich side could not clinch the win, as Declan Rice struck in the 82nd minute for a late equaliser for Arsenal. Thus the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
Harry Kane was named Man of the Match after the duel. The striker intermittently pulled the strings in the build‑up play, provided the killer pass for Davies and took the penalty himself. “It was a good performance. Especially at the start of the second half we came back onto the pitch with high intensity and we also scored the goal,” Kane said. He added: “In the period after taking the lead we should have finished the job – the chances were there.” He further noted: “In the last 20 minutes we tried to keep possession, but Arsenal punished us with the equaliser. Overall the draw is acceptable. We were missing many players today, so we’ll take the point.”
Manager comments and outlook
Vincent Kompany, Bayern's manager, did not linger on the result and already looked ahead. “We are in a period with many games. You have to look at the next match straight away,” the Belgian emphasised. He praised the opponent: “It was a strong opponent, we felt that. But we had our moments and more big chances than I had imagined before the game.”
Both teams can live with the result, but the draw leaves a bitter aftertaste in Munich and London. The point split reflects the evenly matched strength of both sides and gives both managers work on the missed chances.
While Bayern emphasises the need to convert chances more consistently, Arsenal sees the result as confirmation of their ability to bounce back in difficult situations. The duel highlights the narrow gap between the two top clubs in this year’s Champions League.
