Jürgen Klopp's new era sees Germany fighting in the Nations League

In the Amsterdam Arena, the DFB team under Jürgen Klopp experienced its first match of the new era in the Nations League, a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands. Despite fewer goal chances than the Dutch side, the win remained elusive until the final stages. The atmosphere was tense as both sides searched for the opening goal.

Early Draw and Late Response

The Dutch side took the early lead through Felix Nmecha. Cody Gakpo only equalised in stoppage time, resulting in the match ending with one point each. Thus the result remained unchanged, as the Netherlands had already gone ahead in the first half.

After the final whistle, new national coach Jürgen Klopp said: “I think we lost two points because of the late equaliser. Of course I would have loved to win, but I can live with the draw.” The 59‑year‑old coach emphasised that he had gained many good impressions and that it mostly felt right, because a long list of things had worked.

Germany suffers double loss of Musiala and Havertz in the Nations League

Just before kickoff, Jamal Musiala suffered a muscle fibre tear during warm‑up and had to be withdrawn from the starting line‑up immediately. Kai Havertz did start the match, but was substituted after half an hour. Both attacking stars left the squad after the game and were flown back to Germany by the national team.

Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Burkardt, who had only been scheduled for the third international match against Serbia next Thursday, now had to start on Sunday against Greece in Augsburg. They were called into the dressing room right after the match to prepare for the upcoming duel.

Outlook for the Duel against Greece

Germany go into the match against Greece as clear favourites, having already started with a 2-1 win over Serbia. Coach Ivan Jovanovic had already led his team to victory with a last‑minute goal against Serbia, so Greece goes into the new Nations League season with a win.
