Jiménez's debut sparks Cádiz comeback and lifts them out of relegation danger

Borja Jiménez made an ideal debut on 25 October 2026 as Cádiz overturned a half‑time deficit to beat Ceuta 3‑1 in LaLiga Hypermotion, lifting the yellow‑clad side out of the relegation places with their second this campaign.
Ceuta take early lead
Periodista Deportivo Ibon Sánchez was involved in the early action as Ceuta seized the initiative before the break when Yann Bodiger converted a penalty after Manu Fernández handled the ball in the area, giving the visitors a 1‑0 lead. Ale Meléndez forced the home goalkeeper into action in the seventh minute, and Edgar Sevikyan struck the post in the 35th.
At the interval, Jiménez introduced Álvaro García Pascual for Vladyslav Kopotun, reshaping the midfield. The change sparked a shift in momentum, and Cádiz began to press higher up the pitch.
In the 51st minute Antoñito Cordero smashed a shot onto the right post, and Ibon Sánchez levelled the scores with a left‑foot strike from the centre of the area. Six minutes later Albert Caparrós fouled Urko Izeta inside the box, prompting a second penalty which Antoñito converted with his right foot in the 71st minute.
Cádiz continued to dominate, blocking three attempts in the 84th minute. In added time, substitute Borja Vázquez, who had replaced Ibon Sánchez, finished the comeback with a low drive at the 95th minute after a pass from Álvaro García Pascual.
Points and standings shift
The three points moved Cádiz from seven to ten, climbing from the ante‑penultimate to the eighteenth spot and temporarily escaping the drop zone. Their rivals Andorra also sit on ten points but have a game in hand, while Ceuta remain second‑last with five.
Jiménez had warned on the eve of the match that the squad needed points, stating, “We need points, the first three come tomorrow and they have to stay here.” He arrived for his first two training sessions within 18 hours and promised no radical overhaul.
With the immediate threat eased, Jiménez now turns his focus to the upcoming fixtures, hoping the momentum will carry the team through the next challenges.
