Ivan Leko praises Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord, Belgium leads coefficients

Coach Ivan Leko of Club Brugge praised the Dutch top three Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord, while emphasizing that Belgium now leads the UEFA coefficients, with a lead of more than seven points over the Netherlands; on Wednesday at 21:00 he will meet PSV in the Champions League, a competition in Europe.

Respect for the Dutch top three

“I have a lot of respect for the big three clubs, Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. I think they were big clubs in Europe and still are,” Leko said during the press conference in Eindhoven. He added that he mainly focuses on his own club.

Development of Belgian football

Leko emphasized that Belgian football has made huge strides in fifteen years, now being stronger and more competitive than when he played. “This is why Belgian clubs not only take part in Europe, but are also competitive,” said the Croat, who highlighted the changed mentality.

Coefficient battle between Belgium and the Netherlands

Belgium is currently seventh on the UEFA coefficient ranking, while the Netherlands has slipped to eighth place; the gap between the two countries now amounts to more than seven points.

Champions League duel Wednesday evening

Club Brugge gets the chance on Wednesday evening to prove his words when they visit PSV at 21:00 in the Philips Stadium, a crucial confrontation in the Champions League.
