Italy saves itself, France looks less threatening

On September 29, 2026, in Turkey, Italy secured a decisive victory against Belgium, ensuring survival in the Nations League, while France now appears less threatening ahead of the next clash.

The match took place in Bursa, where Italy beat Belgium with a clear 4-1 scoreline. Roberto Mancini set up an offensive system that immediately troubled the Belgian defence. The win erased the fear of relegation to Serie B, a nightmare that had loomed after the previous defeat.

Technical choices and line‑ups

In goal remained Gianluigi Donnarumma, while captain Tonali led the midfield with his usual composure. The attack was entrusted to the trio consisting of Pio Esposito, his brother, and Federico Raspadori, with Kayode on the right flank. In defence, Scalvini and Alessandro Bastoni shone, nullifying the problems created by the Mancini‑Coppola duo.

The first Italian goal came from a gift from Celik after a poorly taken corner by Ruggeri. Frattesi and Kayode then doubled the lead with actions comparable to a video game, while Pio Esposito settled the score with a diving header, his sixth goal for Italy. The Bursa scorer, who had not scored since October 2024, showed that he was back in form after almost two years of drought.

Next challenge against France

Italy pressed high throughout the first half, closing a near‑perfect first period. The result erased the shadow of a relegation to B, which after the knockout against Belgium had become a real nightmare. The teamwork demonstrated that pressure can translate into goals, confirming Mancini's strategy.

The next assignment will be against France at the Stade de France in Saint‑Denis, where Mbappé will not take the field. Zidane, the French coach, has several options at his disposal, including Olise, described as “hot” by Bayern, to create threats. Mancini will have to pick the right men, with only ten coaches left at Coverciano to prepare the squad.

The Nations League Football service was broadcast live with Highlights, Video and Photos, also including content from Tennis, Drive, MotoGP and Pressing.
