Giuffredi Vergogna: 'estorsione' shameful in Caso Esposito
Mario Giuffredi, agent of Sebastiano Esposito, denounced the use of the word “estorsione” as a disgrace, insisting it has no place in sport and announcing a legal complaint over the remark made by Cagliari’s director general. He framed the episode as the “Caso Esposito” and vowed to protect the player’s reputation.
Le parole del procuratore di Sebastiano Esposito were published on Google Discover, listed among Fonti preferite, in the Stampa A− A+ section, highlighting the media platform that carried his statement. Giuffredi said he has filed a complaint for aggravated defamation against the director general, Melis, and will seek damages for reputational harm.
He added that he will continue his work unabated, arguing that a figure who uses such language offends the daily sacrifices of professionals. Giuffredi stressed that the term belongs to a criminal world, not to the sporting environment in which he operates.
Giuffredi argued that the Cagliari president should have immediately distanced the club from a director who employs a word alien to sport. He said the lack of such a response reflects poorly on the club’s leadership.
According to Giuffredi, his role is limited to negotiating economic conditions that reflect the player’s value; doing his job does not equate to extortion, nor does it imply that all Italian agents engage in such activity. He emphasized that his work is legitimate and focused on securing fair terms for Esposito.
He claimed Melis was never present at any negotiation concerning Esposito, stating that the director general has been absent for three years and knows nothing about the deals. Giuffredi expressed confusion over how Melis could comment on matters he has not witnessed.
Finally, Giuffredi said he remains perplexed, upset and disappointed that an important club like Cagliari assigns such a pivotal role to a person who, in his view, contributes little to the club’s core operations. He hopes the dispute will resolve positively for both the player and the club.
