Real Madrid on McTominay: transfer in January if Napoli doesn't renew

The newspaper Il Mattino reported, according to the paper's sources, that if Scott McTominay does not renew his contract with SSC Napoli, the Spanish club Real Madrid would be scouting a transfer already in January, with the possibility of materialising at the start of 2027.

Contract stalemate and potential buyers

The Napoli transfer market is buzzing: for a long time the entourage of McTominay and the management of SSC Napoli have been unable to reach an agreement on the contract renewal, which expires in 2028. Il Mattino notes that several clubs have shown interest, including Real Madrid.

The newspaper reports a survey from Real Madrid with McTominay's entourage, while Premier League teams could also take advantage of the contract stalemate. The negotiation remains stuck and no concrete offer has yet been made.

Without a renewal, the risk of an accelerated departure could be real, warns Il Mattino. This scenario would make Scott's transfer a concrete possibility already in January.

In the event of no renewal, the transfer hypothesis could experience a sudden acceleration and materialise already at the start of 2027. An early departure in January would therefore be a real prospect for the Spanish club.

The only possibility is that sporting director Manna, perhaps on Allegri's advice, does not categorically forbid a January departure, postponing the decision to the summer. In that case, Napoli could negotiate a later transfer.

If a new agreement is not reached by January, SSC Napoli will have to seriously consider an early transfer of McTominay. The January market therefore looks particularly busy for the Scottish midfielder.
