German Kimmich admits the team is no longer among the elite

On September 28, 2026, in a post‑match press conference against Greece, midfielder Joshua Kimmich said that Germany “at the moment we are far from being a top‑level team”. The interview took place right after the Nations League match, in which the German national team earned only one point against the Netherlands and Greece.

Kimmich's words

Kimmich, who does not hide behind words, reiterated that the team is no longer among the continent's best. “Now we are not a top‑level team,” he said, highlighting the gap compared to the stronger nations.

Coach Jürgen Klopp, who arrived recently, still has to lift Germany, which in the Nations League has managed only one point against the Netherlands and Greece.
