Forbs returns after Ajax stint, Leko sees no extra push against PSV

Carlos Forbs returns on Wednesday evening with Club Brugge to Dutch soil. The Portuguese forward, who never managed to convince at Ajax, faces PSV in the Champions League.
Beyond the disappointing Ajax period
Coach Ivan Leko, however, does not expect the former Ajax player to be extra motivated to prove himself in Eindhoven. The Croat emphasizes that Forbs has already left his disappointing period in Amsterdam behind. Forbs experienced a difficult spell at Ajax, where in the summer of 2023 he was signed for millions of euros from Manchester City. The Portuguese winger failed to meet the high expectations in Amsterdam, but has found his footing at Club Brugge.
Bosz points to Dutch over‑criticism while Forbs thrives at Brugge
According to Leko, Forbs does not need to be out for revenge on Wednesday evening. “Carlos is not extra motivated to prove himself after his failed period at Ajax. Sometimes you simply do not fit at a certain club. You have to learn from those moments and he has done that,” the coach said on Tuesday at his press conference. Leko also noticed nothing special about his forward in the run‑up to the return on Dutch soil and saw him smiling, which, according to him, means he feels good. For Forbs, it will be his first appearance on Dutch soil since his departure from Ajax, and he will have the chance on Wednesday evening at the Philips Stadion to show what development he has undergone since then.
