Football news: Dortmund signs Kovac until 2029, Carvajal to Getafe
International Football News reports that Borussia Dortmund has extended the contract with coach Niko Kovac until 2029 and the 34‑year‑old Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has found a new employer at Getafe. Kovac, 54, has been BVB coach since February 2025 and has stabilized the club, which was wobbling at the time.
Kovac's Success and New Goals
The Croat led the Dortmund side from 11th place into the Champions League and finished last season in second place behind Bayern. After the Super Cup defeat to Bayern, Dortmund this season won six of seven league matches. Jan Hübner, who delivered the report for the Bundesliga, emphasized that Kovac can currently laugh heartily.
Carvajal, 34, has signed a contract with Getafe until next summer after 13 years and 451 league appearances for the “Royal” side. Getafe is located 13 kilometres south of Madrid's city centre and sits in 14th place after eight rounds.
