Financial crisis pushes the City into its worst phase

Manchester City transferred its institutional anxiety onto the pitch after being found guilty of 115 financial charges, and it reaches its worst moment of the season after losing its last two Premier League games at home and away, while pressure extends to the board and the players.
The transition from the Guardiola era to the new stage with Maresca on the bench began impeccably. Despite the doubts shown in the Community Shield against Arsenal, Manchester City displayed good vibes, scoring goals and piling up wins without yet showing the change of manager.
The team won seven consecutive matches in all competitions, conceding only five goals in those games. It entrenched itself at the top of the Premier League, taking the lead with authority, debuted with a win in the Champions League and also progressed in the League Cup.
Financial verdict that shakes City
Manchester City was found guilty of breaching more than one hundred Premier League financial rules between 2009 and 2018. During that period, the club mistakenly recorded more than €960 million as commercial revenue. It also spent over €1.4 billion on signings to cement its place at the top of English and continental football.
Maresca urges City to diversify scoring after Brighton loss
The verdict created deep uncertainty, with the possibility that City could be stripped of the titles it has won and face sanctions. That uncertainty moved into the dressing room and onto the pitch, even though the cityzens were defiant in the first match after the announcement, comfortably beating Liverpool at Anfield.
However, the team lost to a stellar PSG at the Etihad Stadium. It then fell in its last two Premier League games, against Aston Villa and Brighton, losing the English league lead and ceding ground to Arteta’s Arsenal.
The sky blues will have to answer this double crisis as they prepare to face RB Leipzig this Wednesday in the Champions League.
