Maresca urges City to diversify scoring after Brighton loss

Manchester City manager Pepijn Maresca warned his squad they must stop relying solely on Erling Haaland after a 1‑0 defeat to Brighton cost them the Premier League lead, a loss that came last weekend and ended City’s run at the top of the table.
Maresca told his players they must cease depending exclusively on Haaland to find the back of the net.
The Norwegian striker has already scored 13 goals in all competitions this season.
He remained silent on Saturday during the 1‑0 defeat to Brighton.
The result caused City to lose its Premier League lead.
The lack of a goal highlighted a potential weakness in the squad.
Maresca now expects other players to take responsibility and contribute in the final third.
He demanded goals from elsewhere in the team.
Ahead of the Champions League tie with RB Leipzig, Maresca discussed his side’s offensive performance.
He insisted the goal burden must be better distributed across the team.
Shared scoring required, says Maresca
"We cannot count on Erling every match. The others must also score," Maresca said, cited by.
"That said, the Brighton match is, to my knowledge, the only game of the season where we have not scored. But, obviously, we are always delighted when Erling is on the pitch," he added.
Maresca stressed that Haaland remains a crucial element for City.
He highlighted the striker’s immense value, noting his presence on the field still provides an advantage.
