Napoli say McTominay returns to football after medical clearance

Napoli announced on Wednesday that Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay has been cleared medically and is fit to return to playing football after a cardiac ablation performed on September 8.

Procedure and recovery

On September 8, McTominay underwent an ablation to correct a mild and benign arrhythmia at Manchester's Spire Hospital. After additional tests, doctors ruled that the 29-year-old player can return to competition.

Availability for the next match

The club at the Maradona Stadium confirmed that McTominay trained with the squad and is available to manager Massimiliano Allegri for Saturday's match against Frosinone, the sixth round of Serie A.

Napoli, which sits in ninth place in the standings, will host Frosinone, who are sixth‑placed, in their next fixture.

Recent background

McTominay had not played since August 30 and missed the 3‑2 defeat to Inter, Serie A champions, as well as the Champions League group‑stage exit against Arsenal.

The midfielder, who signed for Napoli in August 2024 from Manchester United, had become one of the team's pillars since his arrival.
