Napoli gets boost: McTominay returns after heart problems

In Napoli's training complex, the Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay, 29, after a successful ablation treatment in Manchester and new medical examinations, has been given the green light to train fully again and play matches, after a long absence since the end of August.

Medical examination confirms fitness

The ablation treatment took place in early September in Manchester and proceeded without complications. It was a procedure aimed at a mild, benign heart rhythm disorder that had been troubling McTominay since the end of August. After the procedure, a period of rest and individual training followed.

Recently, further medical tests were carried out, which showed that the midfielder is fully fit again. Napoli confirmed that McTominay has resumed group training with the rest of the team. “Scott McTominay has undergone further diagnostic examinations, which have shown that he is fit enough to play,” the club said.

Contract and availability

McTominay remains under contract with Napoli until mid-2028, making him available for the squad again. The club therefore has an important player back in the lineup.

Since the end of August he missed several matches, forcing Napoli to play without his physical presence. His return is seen as an important boost for the club now that club football has resumed.

According to recent reports, the Scot would be open to a return to the Premier League and is suffering from homesickness. His agent has informed interested English clubs, including Manchester United and Aston Villa. Napoli kept the door closed at the time, but the interest remains.
