Edu Aguirre blames Jorge Jesus for betraying Cristiano Ronaldo no apology
Edu Aguirre, personal friend of the striker, contrasted two situations on El Chiringuito: on the one hand, Jorge Jesus's promise to publicly apologise to Cristiano Ronaldo; on the other, the absence of that apology which, according to Aguirre, caused the Portugal captain to leave the camp.
The Unkept Promise
According to Aguirre, in a Tuesday night meeting with Cristiano, Jorge Jesus and the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proença, the coach asked for forgiveness in private for having made Ronaldo warm‑up for thirty minutes without giving him a start and said he would do so publicly. The journalist said the forward expected to hear that apology before the match against Denmark.
Aguirre recounted that the subsequent press conference did not meet the expectation and, on the contrary, Jesus defended his decisions, which heightened the captain's displeasure. “It is a betrayal,” Aguirre repeated, noting that the lack of public acknowledgment led Ronaldo to leave the camp.

Consequences and Reactions
Jesus denied at the press conference that there was a conflict, explaining that Ronaldo knew he would not play against Norway or Denmark and that he had been sent to warm‑up as a precaution. However, Aguirre maintained that sending the captain to warm‑up for half an hour without using him was “horrible” and that the lack of a public apology worsened the situation.
The journalist also highlighted Ronaldo's position within the squad, arguing that his age (41) and his star status demand different treatment. According to Aguirre, the captain feels that “he is tired” and that he is not just a “pim, pam doll”.
Ronaldo leaves Copenhagen camp and promises to reveal the truth
Aguirre's statements come after Ronaldo left Copenhagen on his private jet for Madrid, despite Jesus and Proença's attempt to persuade him to stay. O Jogo reports that the forward has decided not to play for Portugal again, although he has not announced a definitive retirement and promises to explain the reasons for his departure later.
