Ronaldo quits the training camp: federation expects up to six months
Cristiano Ronaldo's private jet lands in Copenhagen, but a few hours later the Al Nassr striker departs for Madrid, leaving the Portuguese national team training camp abruptly. The decision, taken despite the appeals of coach Jorge Jesus and federation president Pedro Proença, has already sparked a storm of criticism.
Possible disciplinary sanctions
According to A Bola, the former Real and Juventus star faces a suspension that could reach up to six months, in addition to a fine ranging from about 500 to 1,000 euros for professionals. Article 160 of the Portuguese Federation's regulations provides for these sanctions for players who leave the training camp without a valid justification.
The measure also provides for an automatic preventive suspension, applied as soon as the player departs from the group. This measure is intended to protect the internal discipline of the national team and ensure the presence of the called-up players.
Jorge Jesus' broken promise fuels Ronaldo's sense of betrayal
Ronaldo's decision comes as his long adventure with Portugal seemed to be drawing to a close. After winning a European Championship and a Nations League, the five-time Ballon d’Or had assessed the international retirement, describing this commitment as the “last dance”.
The act, carried out with his private jet from Copenhagen to Madrid, makes the situation even more delicate for the federation, which will have to decide whether to impose the maximum sanction or seek a more restrained solution.
