Doué triggers Manchester City's collapse at the Etihad
As early as the thirteenth minute of the Champions League clash, French striker Désiré Doué, in the starting lineup on Wednesday, opened the scoring at the Etihad Stadium, leaving goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma helpless.
The first brilliant goal
After an ultra‑rapid Parisian transition, Fabián Ruiz delivered a brilliant pass on the left side. Doué received the ball, dribbled past a defender and struck a low right‑footed shot that nestled against the post, with Donnarumma unable to deflect it.
A decisive pass in two minutes
Two minutes later, Doué linked up with Ousmane Dembélé in an aerial one‑two. After laying the ball off to his teammate in stride, Doué allowed Dembélé to finish, delivering Paris's second goal.
Impact on the match
These two actions, completed in under two minutes, put Paris Saint‑Germain in a very favorable position against Manchester City, which struggled to respond. The Frenchman showed his ability to accelerate, change direction and strike without giving the defence time to regroup, confirming Luis Enrique's confidence, who had chosen to start him from the outset.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, initially on the bench, saw his side lose the advantage quickly thanks to Doué's performance. The Paris hierarchy, which has evolved greatly, thus completed an express comeback, recalling the hunger of the reigning double champion.
Within two minutes, Doué therefore scored and then provided an assist, turning two actions into two almost consecutive decisive gestures, leaving the Citizens without a reply.
