Defensive crisis pushes Fonseca to recall Kamara before Lens

Olympique Lyonnais confronts a depleted defence while a young winger regains fitness, as Paulo Fonseca recalled Noham Kamara for the Friday evening trip to Lens and Julien Duranville rejoined the squad after several weeks out.

Defensive crisis forces Fonseca to reshuffle

Une charnière lyonnaise à recomposer after Moussa Niakhaté and Mohamed Ouedraogo suffered injuries, and Nicolás Tagliafico failed to return from South America in time. Ces absences obligent Fonseca à revoir ses plans, prompting the recall of U20 French international Noham Kamara, who had not featured since the second‑leg defeat to Sparta Prague.

Kamara’s return does not guarantee a place in the starting XI in the north, but it supplies an extra option for the Portuguese coach. Fonseca may pair Ruben Kluivert with Félix Bacher in central defence, shifting Clinton Mata to the right, while Abner and Afonso Moreira Athekame also sit among the limited choices.

Offensive options expand with Duranville’s return

Julien Duranville, the Belgian winger, recovered from a prolonged injury spell that kept him out of the Rennes match before the winter break, and his fitness was confirmed during three weeks without competitive games. Fonseca had already prepared Duranville’s reintegration into the attacking sector, making him the sixth option alongside Ernest Nuamah, Pavel Sulc, Keito Nakamura, Loïs Openda and Kaïl Boudache, who wears number 26.

Rémi Himbert and Adil Hamdani, despite training on Thursday, were omitted from the travelling party and are slated for the reserve friendly at Décines on Saturday.

The final squad for Lens comprises 21 players: goalkeepers Dominik Greif, Rémy Descamps and Bengui; midfielders Tyler Morton, Tanner Tessmann, Corentin Tolisso, Mathias Nartey, Noah Nartey, Adam Karabec Bidstrup and Khalis Merah; and the restructured defence mentioned above.

This juxtaposition of a battered backline and fresh attacking talent highlights Fonseca’s dilemma: he must balance immediate defensive stability with the opportunity to reward patient youngsters, a balance that will shape Lyon’s performance in the upcoming encounter.
