BVB plans winter transfer of Regula as right back
The summer‑failed transfer of Marcel Regula to BVB could finally go through in the winter and be realised. Dortmund's plan, as reported, envisages using the offensive midfield talent as a right‑back. After the summer the contact between the officials barely cooled, so the negotiations continue.
BVB plans retraining of Regula
According to reports, the Black‑Yellows, short Black, want to retrain Marcel Regula from the offensive midfield into the right‑back position. The plan envisages using him as backup for Julian Ryerson.
After the summer Dortmund must rebuild the right defence because Yan Couto moved to Como 1907 in the summer. Without a trained second right‑back, when Ryerson was unavailable the left‑back Daniel Svensson had to fill in temporarily, which is considered suboptimal internally.
Regula is contracted to his current club until 2028, where, according to Sky, he could move to BVB for around seven million euros. The signing is described as “uncomplicated” to implement.
In the current Ekstraklasa season the 19‑year‑old Polish player has already scored two goals in ten games, mostly from the number ten position. According to BVB's plan this offensive statistic should be complemented in the future by more defensive duties.
Besides BVB, in the summer 1. FC Köln also had an eye on the young international. Dortmund was then looking for a solution to the ACL‑injured new signing Giannis Konstantelias.
The winter transfer is seen by the officials of the Black‑Yellows as an uncomplicated step that should close the personnel gap on the right side. If the project is realised in the upcoming transfer window, Regula could be deployed for Dortmund for the first time this season.
