Best DFB captain Kimmich demands answer from Jürgen Klopp
Joshua Kimmich, the 31‑year‑old German Football Association captain, used the interview after Bayern Munich's 2‑2 draw with FC Augsburg to address the dominant topic of the international break: his future under national team coach Jürgen Klopp. He emphasized that pressure and uncertainty after eleven years of professional career no longer play a role.
Topic during the international break
During the recent international break everything revolved around the question of what Joshua Kimmich's future under Jürgen Klopp could look like. The German Football Association captain had left the first two international matches against the Netherlands (1:1) and Greece (0:1) as agreed.
His Munich teammates Aleksandar Pavlovic and Tom Bischof demonstrated in the 2‑0 win over Serbia that Kimmich's influence in the team remains strong.
Prominent voices question Kimmich
Oliver Kahn, Lothar Matthäus and Didi Hamann promptly spoke up and publicly questioned the undisputed starting place of the leader. The discussion was not only about the individual player, but about the entire leadership structure in the German national team.
Kimmich responded with a sober statement: “Honestly, I haven't been following it at all, but you still notice that something was going on.” He emphasized that he has been in the business for eleven years and focuses solely on his performance.
He recalled his record so far: “That's what I've done for the past eleven years. I will continue to do so. In the end, the best always play.” Over the past ten years he has managed to be among the best, and he works daily to showcase his performance every three days.
Kimmich's own perspective and future plans
After Jamal Musiala's injury, Kimmich had hoped to be able to stay with the German national team for the second week. “I would of course have liked to stay, especially when Jamal got injured,” he said, but added that he holds no grievance against Jürgen Klopp.
Max Eberl, Bayern's sporting director, called the discussion “absolutely absurd” and described Kimmich as an indispensable leader who always leads the way. The captain plans to answer the debate on the pitch in November – in the usual three‑day rhythm.
