BVB loses Rayan Cherki over internal disagreement and misses top star
There was excitement today in Dortmund's stadium, but the star Rayan Cherki was absent – the officials of BVB could not agree on the attacking player, according to the French sports newspaper.
reported that Borussia Dortmund allegedly did not complete the signing of Cherki because there was no agreement within the club about the player.
BVB had already shown interest in the attacking player of Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2024 and a year later, but the Frenchman eventually chose Manchester City.
Two years ago, Cherki was reportedly on the verge of a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. PSG was in pole position and Cherki had already expressed his joy about the move in a voice message to Nasser Al‑Khelaifi, the PSG chief, in the summer of 2024.
When Borussia Dortmund intervened, they promised Cherki more playing time, which PSG did not want to guarantee. Internal disagreements, however, prevented a concrete offer, and PSG withdrew, upset about the situation.
Current season and new transfer
Cherki eventually extended his contract with Olympique Lyon, before moving a year later to Manchester City for €40 million. The Frenchman remains under contract there until 2030, while Dortmund expressed interest again in 2025, but was left without chances due to the high transfer fee.
In the current season, Cherki has played nine league matches, scored five goals and provided two assists for his team.
