Borussia Mönchengladbach boss warns fans after derby chaos

Derby‑Schmach Gladbach‑Boss Rainer Bohnhof took to the club’s website on Tuesday, demanding accountability after a night of disorder that eclipsed the on‑field disappointment.

On‑field woes and fan fallout

After five matchdays the Borussen still sit without a point, and last weekend’s prestigious Rhine derby against 1. FC Köln ended in a loss on Alexander Blessin’s coaching debut.

The defeat was compounded by a wave of misconduct from sections of the Fohlen‑Fans, who set off rockets and fireworks, injuring six spectators, including a child.

Presidential rebuke and promised action

In an open letter addressed to the “Borussia‑Family”, Bohnhof wrote that he had witnessed the incidents firsthand on Sunday and spent Monday reviewing video evidence, which left him feeling “disappointment and shame”.

He declared that the perpetrators had betrayed the club’s values and warned that “any visitor who knowingly endangers others proves it is not about football”.

Bohnhof pledged that the club will use every resource to identify those responsible and ensure they face “consequent punishment”.

He also extended wishes for a swift recovery to the injured fans, underscoring that the damage extends beyond the six victims to the reputation of Borussia Mönchengladbach itself.

The president’s stern message arrives as the team struggles to find form under Blessin, with the club’s atmosphere now described as “increasingly volatile” on the Niederrhein.
