Vini Souza stays at Wolfsburgo and leads the German Second Division
In the modest Wolfsburgo stadium, under the dim afternoon light, Vini Souza controls the midfield while fans watch the Brazilian cover more than ten kilometers per match, a sign of his tireless energy.
Decision that surprised the market
Wolfsburgo's pivot has positioned himself as the great undervalued player of the competition. At 27, he received several offers, even from Corinthians, but decided to stay in Germany, sealing the deal two days before the transfer window closed.
“I received many offers. I was happy with that, but Wolfsburgo is a very wealthy club that doesn't need money, and they made me believe they were going to build a team around me,” Vini Souza explained in an interview a few weeks ago, thanking sporting director Dieter Hecking.
Outstanding performance in the Second Division
According to SofaScore, the Brazilian is the best midfielder in the German Second Division, with two goals in seven matches and a 50 % conversion rate on his shots. He also records a top speed of 31.9 km/h, the highest for his position.
In the defensive aspect, he covers 10.8 km per game, makes four recoveries, 1.9 clearances and 0.6 interceptions per match, figures that underline his ability to dismantle the opponent.
Vinicius Souza, born in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, was the Wolves' best player in his last season in the Bundesliga and now aims to make the final big leap in his career.
“Being in a small town, far from family, is quite difficult. In December I thought about applying for a loan, returning to Brazil and coming back to Europe in June,” he confessed, describing the mental burden he overcame thanks to the club's support.
Wolfsburgo, intending to return to the elite, bases much of its project on the figure of Vini Souza, whose continuity looks set to be a possible resounding success for the team.
