Bordalás condemns Getafe after humiliating Conference League loss
Getafe were beaten 2–5 by Lugano on Thursday evening in the Conference League, a defeat that drove coach José Bordalás into a fierce tirade against both his players and the club management, after an evening full of disappointments and an early loss of three points.
Bordalás made it clear after the match that he found the performance unacceptable. He blamed both his players and the club management for the failure and declared: ‘We are not good enough for three competitions, not even for one.’ The result underscored his frustration.
Return to Europe and recent setbacks
This season marks Getafe's first return to European football in seven years, but the start is anything but glorious. A resounding success is not yet in sight, as shown by the early knockout match against Universitatea Craiova in the Conference League. Afterwards they played a draw in La Liga against Rayo Vallecano.
Bordalás had already warned since May of a tough season and the current crisis. After the defeat he began his tirade on Movistar with the words: ‘I feel betrayed, I don’t deserve this.’ He emphasized that the situation must not happen again.

To give rest to players with an increased injury risk, he started with a basic eleven, but had to change the lineup already at halftime. He made four substitutions, including Nemanja Gudelj, while the score was already 1–3 and the humiliation was evident.
The coach then turned to the club management and argued that the squad is out of balance and that the promises made to him over the years have not been fulfilled. ‘I am extremely angry. I love Getafe and this is very painful,’ said Bordalás.

Consequences for the upcoming clash with Ajax
Ajax, who defeated Atalanta on Thursday, will host Getafe on 17 December at the Johan Cruijff Arena. Bordalás's statements will be watched with interest, as Ajax is Getafe's future European opponent. The match offers Getafe a chance to rebut the criticism, but the current form makes it a tough task.
