Bayern sets its sights on Beveren goalkeeper Johannes Schenk

Bayern Munich is keeping a close eye on Johannes Schenk (23) of SK Beveren as the German record champions continue their search for a new goalkeeper for the upcoming summer. The German keeper is on loan at Beveren, coming from Preußen Münster, and his loan spell ends this season.

Goalkeeper situation at Bayern

Manuel Neuer is at the end of his career, prompting the club to reassess its options between the posts. Names such as Bernd Leno and Bart Verbruggen have already been mentioned in recent weeks as possible replacements. The search for a permanent goalkeeper is one of the major issues for the summer.

Vincent Kompany, who as Burnley's coach has secured several signings from the Pro League, is often cited as an example of how English clubs manage to find talent from Belgium. His success underlines that Bayern, although less obvious, also has an eye on a player from our competition.

Johannes Schenk: past at Bayern

Schenk trained between the ages of fourteen and twenty at Bayern Munich and was part of the A‑core, without collecting official playing minutes. After a loan spell and a permanent transfer to Preußen Münster, he became a regular in the second Bundesliga.

Following Münster's relegation to the third division, he was loaned to SK Beveren in the Belgian Pro League. In Belgium he has left a strong impression, including an especially good performance against Anderlecht.

The keeper recently spoke ambitiously in an interview with TZ München: “For me it’s about getting the best out of myself this season, improving every day and helping the team as much as possible. The rest will follow automatically. I am very ambitious, always want to take the next step in my career and play at the highest possible level.”

Bayern is keeping a close watch on Schenk, although he is not immediately seen as a first‑choice goalkeeper. His development, however, has clearly not gone unnoticed, and the expected changes in Munich could give him a chance to knock on the door again during the transfer summer.

With his loan spell at the Freethiel ending this summer, Schenk is ready for a possible return to Bayern, where he previously was part of the youth academy. Whether he makes the step to the first team depends on the club’s final decisions.
