Union Saint-gilloise's Mateo Biondic shines As Jupiler Pro League restarts
A few hours before the Jupiler Pro League resumes on Friday evening for its eighth matchday, the league confirmed that Union Sint-Gillis’s German midfielder Mateo Biondic has been named September’s Player of the Month after a prolific month that saw him register four assists and a goal.
September contributions
Biondic’s output in September was decisive. He supplied two assists against Sint‑Truiden and another two in the clash with Lommel, and added a goal in the win over Antwerp. Those four assists and the goal secured his Player of the Month accolade.
Union’s investment pays off
Union Saint‑Gilloise signed the 23‑year‑old in January, paying just over 200,000 euros to a German fourth‑division side. Transfermarkt now values him at seven million euros, highlighting the rapid return on the club’s targeted recruitment.
Biondic will look to extend his form on Sunday when Union Saint‑Gilloise host OH Leuven at the Dudenpark.
The international break has ended, and the Jupiler Pro League kicks off the eighth round on Friday, with Beveren‑Lommel opening the day’s programme.
Fans confirmed the choice, with a social‑media post reading: “September belonged to Mateo Biondic. He’s the Jupiler Pro League Player of the Month, voted by the fans.”
