Bayern Munich say HUGE Florian Wirtz would shine more than Liverpool

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has insisted the German club could get far more out of Florian Wirtz than Liverpool have managed, after the midfielder displayed renewed promise in his latest outings. Hoeness’s comments came during a Sunday interview with Welt Am Sonntag, where he was asked whether Bayern regretted missing out on the player in 2025.
Early interest and lingering links
Wirtz first attracted Bayern’s attention when he moved to Liverpool in 2025, and the club remained on his radar alongside other European giants. Since a below‑par debut season, the German midfielder has also been linked with Real Madrid and Chelsea, keeping the transfer speculation alive.
Hoeness’s criticism of Liverpool’s use of Wirtz
When pressed, Hoeness replied: "No, because Florian would play much better for us than he is currently doing at Liverpool. I watch a lot of their matches. They haven't integrated him properly at all. At Leverkusen, he received every ball. At Liverpool, he’s just one of many." The Bayern chief suggested Liverpool have not found the right role for the player.
Since returning from international duty, Wirtz has featured in five games for Liverpool, scoring once and providing two assists. He also saw a shot rebound off Brighton defender Pascal Gross on Sunday, underscoring his growing influence.
Julian Brandt praises Wirtz as the best German player at Liverpool
The last four fixtures have seen him directly involved in four goals, albeit one was an own‑goal. His FotMob ratings have been impressive: 8.6 against LASK, 8.7 versus both Brentford and Villarreal, and 7.1 in the Brighton encounter.
In the most recent match, Wirtz created two chances, delivered six passes into the final third and executed nine line‑breaking passes. A first‑time delivery to the left‑wing found Cody Gakpo, highlighting his vision even in a quieter performance.
Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has expressed a desire to reunite with Wirtz, adding another heavyweight to the list of suitors.
Bayern chairman Uli Hoeness demands humility from Lennart Karl
Liverpool remain keen to retain the midfielder, but Bayern’s interest, hinted at by Hoeness, suggests the German club may still pursue a move if the form continues.
