Bayern lock down Korean defender Kim Min‑jae as market interest wanes

Facing a defensive gap after a season of transition, Bayern Munich have moved to retain Korean centre‑back Kim Min‑jae. The club confirmed his contract runs to 2028 and he has already logged 116 competitive appearances for the German side, ending winter‑window speculation.

The Bavarian giants identified a need to shore up the back line as they rebuild under new management. Strengthening the defence aligns with manager Vincent Kompany’s tactical overhaul.

Kim Min‑jae’s deal, extending to 2028, secures a player with 116 competitive outings for Bayern Munich. His 37 league and cup appearances in the previous season underscored his role in the German club’s recent double. Kim arrived from Napoli in 2023 for a reported €50 million fee.

Vincent Kompany has repeatedly praised the defender, stating he belongs in the squad after strong performances toward the end of last season. Kim turned down several offers, demonstrating his commitment to Bayern.

Sky Germany reported that Bayern have dropped any intention to sell Kim Min‑jae, noting that market interest has faded. Yet the club’s stance changed only after the Korean centre‑back rejected external proposals.

Among the rejected bids were an offer from his former side Fenerbahçe and interest from a number of Italian clubs. Those approaches failed to persuade the player, who chose to remain in Germany.
