Arsenal worry grows as Havertz exits early in Nations League clash

Kai Havertz was forced off for Germany after a nasty challenge in the Nations League clash with the Netherlands in Amsterdam, leaving the Arsenal forward limping after Crystal Palace’s Quinten Timber – brother of his Arsenal teammate Jurrien Timber – struck his knee; he was replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib (Getty) while concerns grew for German side and Man City‑linked Sunderland striker.

Challenge and injury

The incident stemmed from a challenge by Crystal Palace’s Quinten Timber, who arrived late and caught Havertz high on his right knee. Timber is the brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber, Havertz’s club teammate. Havertz received treatment but was unable to continue.

Substitution and debut

Arsenal’s injury concerns

Mikel Arteta will be monitoring Havertz’s recovery closely, as the forward has started every Premier League match this season and has already scored two goals. The extended international break offers a window for treatment before Arsenal host Leeds United on 10 October. Arteta has stressed the importance of having his key striker available for the league campaign.

Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey also left the field early, suffering a hamstring problem after a hat‑trick against Manchester City the previous weekend. He was replaced by Meex Meerdink after 35 minutes. The Dutch side expressed frustration at the injury, but Germany pressed on.
