Lille takes Arsenal's lesson after defeat to Betis
Lille held the score for an hour before conceding three goals between the 64th and the 71st minute on Arsenal’s ground on Tuesday, sealing a 0-3 defeat in the Champions League.
A controlled first half
The Dogs got off to a good start, limiting Arsenal to a few chances. Ayase Ueda appeared to open the scoring after a rebound from a shot by Nabil Bentaleb, but an off‑side by Haraldsson saw the goal ruled out in the 22nd minute. Goalkeeper Berke Özer had to intervene several times to preserve the 0‑0 scoreline until halftime.
The turning point of the second half
On the restart, Lille’s defence gave way under London pressure. Jurriën Timber, supplied by Noni Maduke, found the net in the 64th minute, followed by two more goals: Eberechi Eze capitalised on a pass from Bukayo Saka in the 67th minute, then Kai Havertz finished after a pass from Martin Ødegaard in the 71st minute.

Consequences and outlook
This defeat, a second consecutive setback after the 2‑3 loss to Betis, complicates LOSC’s Champions League campaign, leaving them without points after two matches and with six goals conceded. Davide Ancelotti, who was awaiting a response from his side, saw his defence hold firm until the 64th minute before breaking down against a superior opponent. He will now have to prepare for the upcoming Galatasaray fixture, with the priority of keeping a European match going beyond an hour.
