Alfred Schreuder returns to Turkey as Kasimpasa coach

On a sunny morning in Istanbul, Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu reports that Alfred Schreuder resumes his coaching career at Kasimpasa. The 54‑year‑old Barnevelder becomes the successor of Emre Belözoglu, who was appointed on Tuesday as the new head coach at Fenerbahçe.
Middle Eastern period and recent dismissal
After his dismissal from Ajax in January 2023, Schreuder worked mainly in the Middle East, where he became coach of, in succession, Al‑Ain (UAE), Al‑Nasr (UAE) and Al‑Diriyah (Saudi Arabia). In May this year he was dismissed from Al‑Diriyah after failing to achieve promotion to the highest Saudi level. He then turned his focus to the Germany national team, serving as an additional assistant to head coach Julian Nagelsmann during the 2026 World Cup.
Return to Turkey and contract details
After that adventure Schreuder was without a job, but now he is about to be presented at Kasimpasa. The Istanbul club currently sits in a respectable fifth place in the Süper Lig, one point behind Fenerbahçe, where Emre has moved to. According to Sabuncuoglu, the contract runs until the end of the season. This adds a new country to Schreuder's rich résumé.
The former player, who has played for, among others, Feyenoord and RKC, began his coaching career as an assistant to the late club icon Theo Bos at Vitesse. He then moved to FC Twente, where he worked under Steve McClaren, Michel Preud’homme, Michel Jansen and Co Adriaanse. He then started his first foreign adventure at TSG Hoffenheim as the right‑hand man of Nagelsmann and Huub Stevens, before joining Ajax in the technical staff of Erik ten Hag.
After the successful 2018/19 season he left Amsterdam for Hoffenheim, where he remained as head coach for a year. Later he worked at FC Barcelona as an assistant to Ronald Koeman, spent half a year as coach of Club Brugge, and returned to Ajax for the head‑coaching role.
