€255 fine for Ronaldo after clash with coach Jorge Jesus

In late September Cristiano Ronaldo left the Portugal team camp in Denmark after having argued with national coach Jorge Jesus. The disciplinary commission responded on Monday with a thirty‑day ban and a fine of €255.

Disciplinary measure in detail

The 41‑year‑old veteran, who has so far earned 234 caps for Portugal and scored 146 goals, was punished by the commission for his unilateral departure from the camp. In addition to the ban, he was fined exactly €255.

The association explained that the sanction was imposed under Article 160.º of the disciplinary regulations. The penalty was mitigated because Ronaldo could not cite any prior disciplinary incidents and had fully cooperated in the proceedings.

Reactions from player and association

Ronaldo said in a statement that he regarded the incident as a breach of trust by the coach, but had already expected a possible sanction. He emphasized that he will be available for the team again once the ban expires.

Association chief Pedro Proença confirmed that the door remains open for the long‑time superstar and that the imposed sanction complies with the regulations. Ronaldo has already served most of the ban days, so he can soon return to training.

The case sheds light on the tensions within the Portugal team and shows that even a player of Ronaldo's calibre cannot be placed above the association's disciplinary rules.
