René van der Gijp claims Arne Slot was ousted by Liverpool
René van der Gijp asserted on the programme Vandaag Inside Oranje that Arne Slot was ‘uitgekotst’ – effectively kicked out – during his final year at Liverpool, a claim that surfaces while the Dutch football community debates the vacant national team coach role and Slot’s reputation as the preferred successor to Ronald Koeman.
René van der Gijp said the story that Arne Slot was “uitgekotst” at Liverpool in his last season is true. Slot is repeatedly mentioned as the ideal candidate to replace Ronald Koeman as the Netherlands head coach.
Maurice Steijn was seated at the table as the conversation turned to the open national‑team coaching vacancy. The panel examined who could step into the role that Koeman will leave.
Presenter Wilfred Genee asked Van der Gijp, “Really?” and Van der Gijp replied, “Ja, dat is echt waar.” Genee responded, “I haven’t heard that,” and Steijn added, “I haven’t either.” Van der Gijp insisted his source was reliable despite the lack of corroboration.
Van der Gijp explained that the entire squad felt the performance was mediocre, though he insisted the blame never lay with Slot. He suggested that only Virgil Van Dijk might still back the coach. He asked whether the story had appeared in the English media, noting it would come from players who worked with Slot in the dressing‑room.
Johan Derksen said he had not heard the rumor either, but trusted René van der Gijp as a “keurige schoolmeester” with good sources. Derksen added that “you saw it in the body language of Salah,” implying the coach’s treatment was evident.
