Reading add experience with Jacob Brown signing to boost attack

🇬🇧

Reading have secured forward Jacob Brown on a two‑year contract after his departure from Luton Town, the League One rivals where he spent three seasons and recorded seven goals in 60 appearances. The 28‑year‑old striker also featured on loan in the Championship with Portsmouth during the second half of last season.

Reading's recruitment board highlighted Brown's experience in higher divisions, noting his 30‑goal tally over more than 140 matches for Stoke City across three seasons in the Championship. His contribution to Barnsley's promotion to the second tier in 2019 further demonstrates his ability to influence successful campaigns.

The forward's recent loan spell at Portsmouth gave him exposure to Championship intensity, which Reading hope will translate into immediate impact in League One. Brown's versatility and proven track record align with the Royals' ambition to strengthen their attacking options.

The signing marks Reading's third addition this summer, following the arrivals of Kyreece Lisbie and Udoka Godwin‑Malife, indicating a broader squad overhaul. All three deals were completed in July 2026, reflecting an active transfer window for the club.

For Reading, Brown provides a seasoned striker capable of adding depth and goal threat as they aim for promotion. For Brown, the two‑year deal offers a stable platform to rebuild his career after a season of loan moves.
