PSV's pre‑season test sees Pléa return as Antwerp claw back

At the training ground in Eindhoven, PSV opened their pre‑season with a 1‑1 friendly against Belgium’s Royal Antwerp on Saturday, with 18‑year‑old midfielder Noah Fernandez netting the opening goal in the 25th minute before Aaron Ibrahim rescued a draw for Antwerp after more than an hour of play.

The opening minutes favoured PSV, with Couhaib Driouech testing the Antwerp goalkeeper before his effort was saved. A second chance for Driouech saw his shot go wide, while Antwerp's first attack after fifteen minutes required no intervention from keeper Nick Olij.

In the 25th minute Noah Fernandez, the 18‑year‑old midfielder, struck the ball into the corner to give PSV a 1‑0 lead at halftime. The goal marked the first strike of PSV’s pre‑season campaign.

The second half began with Alassane Pléa making his return after a prolonged injury spell. Joey Veerman also entered the fray, providing fresh creativity in midfield.

More than an hour into the match Aaron Ibrahim restored parity for Antwerp with the equaliser. Despite the boost, the Belgian side failed to generate clear‑cut chances, and neither side added a second goal.

PSV’s preparation now includes fixtures against Polish club Raków, Spanish side Villarreal and a local clash with FC Eindhoven. The team will then face AZ in the Johan Cruijff Shield on 2 August.

The 1‑1 result offers PSV a benchmark as they fine‑tune the squad ahead of the upcoming season opener. It also underscores Pléa’s readiness to contribute after his comeback.
